Aishwarya is a south indian and it is very obvious from her looks. She has said in many of her interviews that she speaks tulu and kannada, and that is her mother-tongue. Rai is not an Aryan name.I think People here are mistaking Rai with Roy. But no matter what, this lady is way too beautiful and glamorous |

I doubt you're gonna get that - but try a sanskrit site - you can type in a name and they'll rewrite it in sanskrit. |

O dear - we're still talking about castes are we? I personally think the caste system is the most evil thing to have hit india in its entire history - a system that was brought with the settling aryans to proclaim their dominance because of their fairer skin over the indigenous (aboriginal) darker skinned Dravidian population in india - it is no wonder Aishwarya doesn't go around calling herself a brahmin - respect to her for that - I certainly wouldn't feel proud to call myself a brahmin - hehe feel free to now go crazy, disagree and reply to my post - but i'm not gonna care - the meaningless racist caste system should be abolished in India - and Aishwarya is with me on that one. |

Her ancestors are not just aryan - because her mother tongue is of the dravidian language groups. But yes, Rai is an aryan name - her first name Aishwarya can be found in Paali, Tamil, and other dravidian languages as well as sanskrit. In sanskrit it means prosperity - but it also means "beautiful" in other languages - imagine that huh? |

Her Rai origin is aryan. There are many rais surename is north india, punjab, pakistan and even persia. Rayyas used to rule vijayanagar empire. So her descendent are aryans. However , they later amalgamated to the dravidian bunt culture. |

Btw tulu is a beautiful dravidian language predominantly spoken in mangalore, and is a sister language of kannada, and other south indian languages such as tamil. Aishwarya is known to be fluent in kannada, probably for this reason. |

She is not bengali. Aishwarya is from the bunt community, a south indian community, her native tongue tulu, having been born in mangalore, karnartaka. In interviews she prefers to stress she's actually from bombay, where she moved, and grew up from an early age. She shares her ethinicity with shilpa shetty among other bollywood thespians. U're right in saying she's hindu indian, however. Might i add i really like her, and she's usually very down to earth in interviews! She's cool. I wish her well. |
