hey aman- i completly understand what you mean my goal is to take all that information, and make one hell of a documentary out of it, and show others who dont get it the way we do (just like everything you said) just like someone said down in the other posts on this thread..that every other nationality seemed to have found it's niche in Hollywood except the Indian's nationality..so i guess its our turn now to show hollywood our side of the story..and all i want to do, is be part of that movement in which we make a name for ourselves in hollywood- its been my dream goal for so long because of my film-making passion.

But still as 62.234.4.0 has stated, India within India is yet to improve a lot. India is famous for the "unity in diversity" where within we fight each other based on religion, region, Politics and what not? Indians work hard once they are out of India...but not within.Richest people live here....but poorest also live along. Beautifull it is...but the ugliest slums are there too...Highly educated...illiterate, Ultra modern....Orthodox, White...black...Yes as Ms. Rai stated the world is within India...in every way. tc luv aman |

The IT man - Sabhir Bhatia,Creator of Pentium Chip - VInod Khosla, Co founder of Sun Micro systems-VInod dham all are indians. The president of AT& T, GM of HP, even 36% of NASA Scientists and 34% of Microsoft employees are Indians Ancient India also do have a golden history of achievements which no other country can claim.May it be number system, mathematics, university, language, ayurveda or even chess. It was all born in India Did U gys hear about Falguni Shah her band Falu music are quickly gaining recognition in downtown New York for blending raga and rock. Shez yet another Indian. contd |

Hello Steve, I dont know if my views will be of help to u. AS said by u "when americans hear "indian" they automatically assume the picture of a RED DOT on the forhead, with a fobish accent..and thats how indians are portrayed in the american cinema." True Steve, but see even in Indian cinema i dont think things are much different. We tend to portray ourselves like that. Well in a hindi movie when u show a south indian character, he/she is always as stupid as noone can be also with a funny accent in hindi. When it is a Gujarathi character he/she should be born to eat and nothing else. And NRI as though they dislike India to core.Foreigners are picturised as unfaithfull and selfish. The trend may be changing now because we are knowing more of people now and views of public are changing. contd |

(continued..again) so my main concern is that since you have connections with aishwarya and her manager..if you can put a good word about me and what im doing, and have aishwarya give me personal ideas herself, and if that i can put a link to this video on this website..afterall, it was all aishwarya's doings that got me into it..so i think its approrpiate in that matter to display it on her website..please get back to me thank you. you can even e-mail me if you want. steventhomasproductions@walla.com

(continued) it was aishwarya that got me to do this even more..this displays how one can be such a role model..if it wasnt for her, i would have just had all these things in my mind, keeping it to myself, but now i feel like i should let it out, and make a change..i want to be known one day for my films and the man that did something about the indian reputation in hollywood..i need to show people what india really is- its not just a corrupt country with millions living in poverty...we have so much more to us that the world does not know..

Hey Arijit.. Thank you for replying on the thread, your response meant alot to me, so thank you. I understand that the world realizes that india isnt all that great, i agree too, but thats not the exact point im fighting for. Its the indian reputation in hollywood that is getting me crazy. I strongly dislike how we indians are made fun of whenever there is an indian role in a movie..so thats basically how we are categorized to americans, un-itelligent, and etc..( i know this because i live here and witness this stuff) I have been to india many times (im south indian, so i visit places like kerala) and i know how my country is doing. Movie-Making is my passion, and once aishwarya spoken out about the indian reputation in hollywood (in her interviews) i connected with her so much, and that made me take a step foward and get serious about making this documentary. |

Hi Steve! How are you doing today? So you want to present the real India to the world. I think the world already knows about India. World can't afford to ignore India anymore. However, I agree there are still some people in US and in some other western counties, who include India among the third world nations. LOL. They need to go through their national dailies and news channels and find out the actual status of India. It is projected that by the year 2020 - 25 India will become the super-power. Of course we still have to do lot of work in the areas of population control, health, education, basic infrastructure etc. There is a lot of gap between rich and poor in India. We need to narrow down that gap. You will find lot of books about modern India, its rich culture and glorious past. You will find several documentaries on India in National Geographic and Discovery. I would rather recommend you to get a first hand experience. Visit my country and experience it. As far as Aishu's contribution to glamour, cinema and society is concerned, you can buy the DVDs, search the net, take help of webmaster of this site and other popular sites. I do have some personal collections, but some of them are still in VHS format. Whenever I get the opportunity, I will definitely share it. You will find everything in AishwaryaWorld.com |

At first lot and a lot of thanks to Steven. About your asking, "does anyone have any ideas..or even know some good videos of ash i can use (sort of remix it) to the theme". The only thing I can suggest, contact with her manager Simone(simone@aishwaryaworld.com). She is a nice lady and I'm sure you can get proper support from her. |

cont'd from top but i think its a great idea that you want to change the view of how americans see india, someone should do that for africa. i mean, all you ever see for africa is a bunch of kids on world vision...so i think your doing a good thing |

to steven: i think it was great that aishwarya mentioned the thing about americans thinking that because her english is good that she didnt go to school in india. that is a very common misconception that people have about indians, that they dont know how to speak english. in fact, thats something that the west thinks about almost every 3rd world country. when she mentioned that thing, i was like omg,she hit the nail right on the head. my cousins grew up in nigeria (which is the 3rd most corrupt country in the world) and they are both in univerisity. but they get asked all the time if they studied abroad because no one believes that they could possibly get any education in africa.

Hi steven, If u ever been to india u should know wat u have to do and wat aishwarya said in Oprah was just a lil thing abt americans thinking that india is uneducated. While americans know that the intelligence of India is high. Neither am i from India ya usa , i am from europe but been in india several times n usa too. Just make sure when u do the documentary abt india, that even its a mess ppl leave there life happly even when they are poor. Try too show them the joyfull life of beeing poor. I wish u all the best..tc.. |

(cont) im just saying, in this little documentary i want to do, i want to open the doors to viewers the other parts of india they dont usally hear about. which kind of upset me when aishwarya just focused on in oprah about how indians cant speak english...that wasnt even powerful..i hope that wasnt her real motivation to get out here..because indians not speaking english HAS NOTHING to do of how they are talked about here in the U.S..we indians are basically a race that is being made fun of to the american eye, no one knows our motives and belifs- nor take them serisouly..i am not hindu, so i do not know what the hindu's belifs are..however, they are strong, meaningful, and very important..so i want to learn more about that, and even show that in this documentary..

of course i understand that there are many negative aspects in india..im not saying india is a complete paradise in ones eye..what the point is that im fighting against, is the indian reputation here in hollywood..i've lived here in the US all my life, and growing up in an american school being an indian, ive noticed many things...SO MANY people make fun of hindu's..i strongly dislike to say it but, when americans hear "indian" they automatically assume the picture of a RED DOT on the forhead, with a fobish accent..and thats how indians are portrayed in the american cinema...i am not even hindu, yet i am categorized as one, because there are so many immature-unintelligent americans out there..i am not saying there is anything WRONG with being hindu(i have nothing against them, i love them) (cant fit- next post) |

There is so much and I mean SO MUCH more beautiful about India than Mountains and buildings. You can't sum up India in 1 sentence or really even in one film for that matter. It's impossible, it's too huge. The people, no matter how rich or poor all make India what it is, the beauty that it is, and undoubtedly all the aspects, good and bad, would and should be equally reflected in a doc/film on India. I think what's being said is that all the beauty of India, because of reasons of political bias/propaganda etc., has been supressed from the rest of the world. And this is not just the case with India. So it's great that film makers are now willing to give a better representation of India and other countries in their films. |

India aint that beautifull as it seems to b, the taj mahal is nice the mountains, the buildings the memories but wat about the poor ppl, they try to live a happy life even when they can eat one piece of bread, beggars who beg as it is there work to beg. If u wanna show something about india than dont forget to show the diiferents between billionair, just rich, just normal , poor and to live ur life as soon as possible. |

Yeah, but to quote her exactly, she said "there really hasn't been that strong a representation of the indian in Hollywood" on 60 Minutes. On a trip to Hollywood, she told Robert De Niro in a meeting that every other nationality seemed to have found it's niche in Hollywood except the Indian's nationality. And he knew exactly where she was coming from, and agreed with her. |

That's exactly what Aishwarya is doing, and it's great that you're doing that too. I agree that film as an art has the potential to be so much greater without the barriers of race, creed, or the discrimination against religious background etc. etc. |

(continued..sorry for writing so much) i belive that countries from everywhere should contribute their talents to the entertainment industry..not based on their skin color, religion, etc, but moreover their talents and dedication to the art. i think everyone agrees with me that, hollywood (these days) dont touch upon other cultures in serious roles..if you see an indian in a movie- they are most likely a cab driver- (or made fun of for their accent) i want to go beyond that and change that!!!! |

i have connections with this lady that is known to be someone ontop with running tribecca film festival- and im hoping that if this video comes out good i can submit it in the festival- how great would that be ? i mean, the title i came up with pretty much explains alot.."reflection of india".it is the return image of india that the public doesnt really get to see..and my plan is that in this certain "reflection" of india, people get to see what india's really about. anyway i hope kryss allows me to do this..because it was aishwarya (herself) that gave me this powerful idea one day..when i heard her in 60 minutes..(talking about the indian reputation in hollywood) i agreed 100%, and i loved her for saying that..because my dreams one day is to become a film director in hollywood, and be known to change the image of india's reputation..not only india, but many other countries out there.. |

Wow - mm you should wait for Arjit or someone on this board, who is the guy who'll ask Aishwarya's manager/the webmaster Kryss if that's possible (I mean the link on the website). As for making the film, if you get/need permission, mmm Clips from Devdas, Taal, Kandukondain kandukondain (especially this film hehe) and SHAKTHI: THE POWER. OMG - she appears in a song with this other bollywood star Shah Rukh Kahn (You have to check that out. This photo comes from that film: http://movies.indiainfo.com/masalaplanet/images/as h_shakthi.jpg And there are SO MANY OTHERS. hehe go on aishwarya-forever.com and check out their site/galleries/her filmography. You won't EVER want to leave. |

Hey everyone My name is steven and im from ny.. i am an independent film maker (particpated many times at tribeccaa film festival) and i was thinking about doing something like this.. i want to make a short movie called " Reflection of India" which shows people, the other side of india, that your normally dont see out there..when i see things about india on tv (here in the US) its pathetic..i strongly dislike the way that the indian reputation in hollywood is..and as ash said in her 60 minute interview, "the indian doesnt have the greatest reputation in hollywood"...like ash, i want to do something about it..and do a video showing india's good features..and whats better than showing aishwarya rai..the most beautifil woman in the world (FROM INDIA!).. cant fit..continued on next post |
