Excerpts: - She has posed for some great pictures in the past but when Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai meets British Prime Minister Tony Blair here on Thursday afternoon it will be an extra special shot. Accompanied by Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh and British Asian Labour MP Keith Vaz, Rai will arrive in London for the meeting at 10, Downing Street as part of the European Union’s Global Diversity Awards. "She is extremely excited about the honour and the meeting and is flying in just for a day specially for this," Singh confirmed on Wednesday during a lunch at the House of Commons with Vaz, UK deputy prime minister John Prescott and Hollywood star Jackie Chan. Rai, who will head back to India immediately after the ceremony to carry on with the shooting of J.P. Dutta’s remake of Umrao Jaan, was picked by the Next Step Foundation for the award for her international role as India’s ambassador and charitable work through the Aishwarya Rai Foundation. "Aishwarya Rai is a symbol of what Asian women can achieve and a real international symbol for diversity," said Vaz, the co-chair of the conference and patron of the Next Step Foundation Source : http://www.asianage.com/main.asp?layout=2&cat1=2&c at2=28&newsid=194160&RF=DefaultMain |

This is another feather in Aishu's cap. The British government will honour Aishu with The Next Step World Diversity Champion award. The date is not confirmed though. According to some news channel and dailies it will take place on Sept 24 2005, other report it will happen on Nov 24 2005. This award is given to those who have encouraged pride to be among ethnic minority community. It is also reported that Aishu will address the gathering and take up issues related to ethnicity. Jackie Chan who was also given the same honour before will share the stage with former US secretary of state Colin Powell. Wish you all the best Aishu. As always you have made us feel proud again. May God bless you |
