I'm a huge Ash fan and I don't feel that she in any way has to answer to any one on what she wears,besides Ash could ware a brown paper bag and still look beautiful. I think its just that we're not use to seeing her in such revealing outfits. I'm a HUGE Aishwarya Rai fan..Thankshttp://}

I don't care what she wore. I don't care that she's put on a little weight- However, when you wear such clothes, you should tone up a bit. Pictures of her back looked scary- she doesn't need to lose the weight- but how about toning up so that the rolls don't show on her back?

Aishu will never mind a criticism provided it is justified. As far as this issue is concerned Aishu has already given her statement, so there shouldn't be room for any doubts.

Needless to say that sari looks good on any lady. Aishu has a tremendous dress sense. She dresses according to the occasion. Aishu draped a sari at the Cine Classics ribbon cutting and interview at the Indian Pavilion during the 57th International Cannes Film Festival.

I think I’ve to clear something, otherwise there might be some misunderstanding.
When I obtained some authority to edit &/ delete message in this board I was told to inform the Webmaster about deleted messages. I always think as a human being she (Ash) must have some flaws and if we the well wisher point out then it’ll be easy for her to overcome it. So there is no question to delete any criticism message. But if slang / defamatory words are used under cover of criticism then I’ll must delete that. In the same manner to avoid unnecessary debate, which will ultimately pollute the environment especially there, which is treated as her virtual home I delete that message although that wasn’t defamatory. After deletion I inform to Webmaster either then or later collecting some.

It wasn't her decision. Loreal wants her to wear it ok.
Don't talk about something that you don't even know. There are many things going on around the world which you don't know. So, don't talk bad about people. ok! especially Ash in her website!

Y suddenly Ash had to wear such type of dress which we are all stunned to see. Well the reason is , we have never seen her b4 like this , so we are taken aback. Well the gown is pretty but i guess the cloth was not sufficient to cover the neck.
Well its ok, she has'nt come like jlo or britney spears. Well i 2 guess it could be that she was made to wear that outfit being the loreal ambass
Well its over so i guess y crib on it now.
She is not going to forget our Indian culture. so no worries guys.

Well since i knew that she didn't choose her dress for Cannes opening, i have nothing to say. I just took back what i said realier in this post ! I personnaly think she's not that kind of woman who exposed her body. If she would have to do it, she would have done it in her movies. As u can noticed, she hasn't exposed her body nor doing deep romantic scenes in her movies. So i my respect toward her is still the same since i read in the news that l'Oreal asked her to put that dress. That's my opinion, just wanna share it with u all !

Third: You make several comments about eastern tradition. Don’t you know the same teaches us to talk with a lady within a courtesy limit? In western this type of comment may be within courtesy but in eastern not so. The picture is posted in the same thread and everyone is talked about it. No one is blind and feeding infant. Everyone can understand why they not liked her dress and express their opinion within a limit. But your so-called objective discussion goes beyond limit and I’ve to edit it which I don’t like to do. You can say immature or one sided or anything you want. But I’m a conservative one in eastern tradition.
You may not like her decision, her choice. You may guide/advice her but you can’t insult her or interfere her personal choice, which drive her to mad that is happening at each time.

First: no muscleman is appointed here to delete any objective posting if it is really so and no one here is adult enough to understand which is objective. And you find there’re many comments (of course objective) against her dress. No one deleted their postings.
Second: As a brand ambassador she has wear according to the L'Oréal ‘s choice not her own. Honestly I know she’ll wear western outfit but not prepared for this. But accepted it shortly realizing it’s not according to her choice. Even it is at her own choice I would accept it. I can realize from my own everyone has a plan, believe which is only his own and it can’t be tolerated if other interfere here. Ash is a human being. As she is a dreamy personal to billion’s of people and the expectation to her from each one is beyond the sky’s limit. It is impossible for her to satisfy every expectation although she didn’t make any deal with anyone to do so. She’ll do that what her inner-voice says her.

WEll we all are entitled to our opinions **.

I didnt expect her to give in to the glitz and glamour and compromise her values.

Im sure many fans will be disappointed and won't see her as the image of piety (not that she should be looked apon as that, as of course she can never be that as an actress obviously)
That title goes to Mother Teresa of course. However Aish should adhere to the sacred values of an Eastern women, otherwise in the sea of horrid debauchery, she may just lose her identity.

So sad, yet so true!

Sorry to say this but as an Indian icon and an Indian women - she shouldnt dress so inappropriately. Scantily clad is for the westerners not for the decent indian women who have values and class and know that their body's ornaments are something to be concealed and not revealed.

Im sorry to say but now there is no difference between her and the rest of the disgraceful hollywood actresses. This goes for Bollywood types like Bipasha Basu also.

IF someone deletes this post - and disallows such objectivity and expression, it will only go to show how immature and one sided you are.

L'Oreal chose that white dress (an Armani suit) for Ms.Rai. May be if she chose, it would have been different.

ok there seems to be a lot of controversy about Aishwarya's dress at Cannes. I was, to be honest, a little surprised at her choice of clothing, but I respect her decision and if she feels she has to dress that way then that's OK. she's not lowering her standard or anything like that. i dunno that might be the American way or something, and now that she's in the North American spotlight, i guess that's all right. and besides, she looks amazing. she really has worked hard to shed the 20 pounds she gained for bride & prejudice. and i saw her in person on May 16th, and she was STUNNING to say the least.

My Cannes diary is completely chock-a-block, it starts at 8 am, then there's something at 10, at 10.15, at 10.30.it goes on like this till midnight. The last time I could not give L'Oreal enough time, so this time I promised them I would. Apart from the opening ceremony, I will visit the India pavilion, and then I'll be gone. My time is really not my own-L'Oreal has fixed everything, there is nothing I can do about it."

Oh Aishu! you are simply Aishu. No adjectives are good enough for you!
God O God!

David is right. Aishu dressed according to the occassion. It is true that Sari is the most graceful attire, but Aishu is there as a brand ambassadress for L'oreal.

Aishu elevates the status of anything that gets associated with her. Be it a dress or anything else.

We would call actresses like bipasha and malika and hollywood celebrities like jlo - cheap in these dresses, but ash carries it off very elegantly. she looks classy!! all these hollywood actresses might have the body but i would say no one in this world has such a pretty face than ash

Just look at pictures of the late Princess Diana. Even when she started wearing Versace she was sexy but not over the top. She would never would have worn a Versace gown like what Liz Hurley or Jennifer Lopez did. As for Jennifer Lopez she can carry off daringly sexy gowns as she has the body and the personality to carry it off. If she wears a closed up gown she would look ordinary and nothing special.

So you see when it comes to women's fashion you have to have all this in mind when selecting an outfit. Its not like guys where you can just wear a tux and be done with it.

Hi David,

Thanks a lot for the tip of her in the gold saree. She looks really good.
As for your gown statement I'm not saying Indians can't dress sexily or wear a bikini or something.
Its about choosing a gown which has cut that brings out the best in a person. I don't think its bad to try something different as long as she kept it according to her own style and image in mind. Besides to be honest Ash does not have a toned body to wear such a gown. She would have looked better in that silver gown Charlize Theron wore for the Golden Globes. (cont'd)

Today at the Ribbon ceremony for Cine Classic, Ash wore what she used to wear in great moment, a nice saree.

Hey, folks, I was almost most shocked by your reaction than by her dress! Come on India created sensuality! (Remember, the Kamasutra and all those stuf?) Aishwarya show nothing but her back and that's really comon! She is really decent and I must say that I do not understand you.

Loreal is a cheapskate product of poor quality. Their make-up doesn't last and their lipsticks make your lips dry. Their skincare is also horrible. Only their haircare range is okay. That is why they have to pay so much for advertising compared to more reputable brands like Chanel and Clarins. All I can say is its "worthless".

Ok David l'Oreal = glamour but if she has to wear such dresses, then why did she has signed the contract? If she was conscience about that she must have denied it. Maybe she had other idea behind her head.Is it for attracting Hollywood's eyes on her? then why not doing kisses scenes and exposure in films?
Yes she has to be ready, i'm sure that the indian press will crash her now!:-(

Yes Mufan i'm ok with u !
I always read from her that she won't expose herself, even in her latest speech at an event (i don't remember the exactly name, it start like cons.') talking about newcomers who are exposing a lot of herself to get the fame. But Ash was different from them, she was seen like an exception. In all her movie, she weared decent dresses!! Even in her modeling pics. She was getting more and more famous without being glamourous. That's why i get shocked seeing her in such a dress.

I am also just as shocked as Suraj. What makes Ash stand out his her ability to look sensual and regal without exposing herself. Now she is dressed like any other Hollywood vamp. She is defintely going to face hell from the Indian press. I thought the most elegant looking among the 3 is Gong Li as she wore something sexy but still chinese inspired without being over exposed.

She was there for L'Oréal -> glamour
L'Oréal does not sell saree nor dresses, they sell charm and beauty.
Cannes is a glamourous event and futhermore, Hollywood made his grand come back this year so you guess what was needed.

According to me, Ash is really nice on those pictures.

http://www.aishwarya-forever.com/photos/images/Can nes2004/opening-1.html
I was happy to found them, but shocked to see her dressed like that ! Woooww i'm still under shock! Is she going Hollywood type? i didn't think that she will wear such dresses after have reading and see all her interviews and stuffs on her! :-(. In all her movies, she always wears clean dresses except in the song ISHK KAMINA but it was ok!

L'Oréal Cannes Site is not up to date (photos of last year) but watch this place, I'm sure Ash will be "there" soon!

No problemo, Suraj, I'm just again any division.

I saw Ash on the news (briefly), I felt sorry for Laeticia Casta and the other lady I didn't even notice: Aishwarya was stupendous!
She wore a silver dress and a light make up (I suppose the responsible for last year must wash cars by now). The commentator wasn't even able to tell her name properly (ashawaraya raye grrrr! hey buddy she was in the jury last year, remember? ) but at least, he did tell she was indian and not indonesian (I have nothing agains Indonesia, do not misunderstand .).

I talked only about French showbiz people, and hope u are not one of those :-)
lol
Arjit, i'll try my best to record all Cannes stuffs on TV about Ash and try to share that with u guys :-)
But i'm a little bit confused.

Is she coming on the 12/05 or on 13/05? because in aishwarya-forever site it says she'll attend Cannes on 13/05 !
Well, let me check that tonight :-)

Hey David! how about some special clippings of Aishu from the opening ceremony?

I request those who can manage some snaps or audio/ video coverage of Aishu in the opening ceremony, to share them with us. Let the visitors of this board have the previledge of knowing what exactly happened during the event. :-)

Thank you for "these ugly french showbiz persons".
I'm PROUD TO BE FRENCH! I hope you are not living in France because it must be hard to live here while thinking there are only "ugly persons".
Anyway, enjoy your festival and try to sneak into the "marché du film", you should cross some "nice people".
